Fundamentals of Wind Energy Engineering

M.Sc - PG

3–6 Months

Masters of Science Programes

Course Overview

This course provides an introduction to wind energy, covering wind resources, wind statistics, and the basics of wind turbines. It serves as a foundation for more advanced courses in wind energy engineering. Students learn about turbulent flows, atmospheric boundary layer structures, wind statistics analysis, rotor aerodynamics, and fundamentals of support structure mechanics. The course also covers experimental and numerical analysis of materials (steel, concrete, composites) and introduces the concept of the digital twin in wind energy systems. Laboratories provide hands-on experience in analyzing wind data and turbine mechanics.

Main Goal

To familiarize students with the fundamentals of wind resources, wind statistics, and wind turbine basics, providing the foundation for advanced wind energy engineering courses.

Skills to be Gained

– Understanding of wind resource assessment and wind statistics
– Knowledge of rotor aerodynamics and support structure mechanics
– Ability to analyze experimental and numerical data related to wind turbines
– Awareness of digital twin applications in wind energy engineering
