DigiWind General Assembly 2026: Collaboration, Innovation, and Energy Site Visits in Limerick

From May 19 to 22, 2026, the DigiWind consortium gathered in Ireland for a highly productive General Assembly Meeting. Hosted and organized by project partner Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), the four-day event blended intensive Work Package (WP) strategy sessions with valuable regional industry networking and field visits to Ireland’s premier power stations.

Here is a breakdown of how the week unfolded, driving the future of digital wind energy education forward.

The week kicked off on Tuesday afternoon with an inspiring site visit to the historic Ardnacrusha Power Station, Ireland’s hydro-electric milestone. This was followed by a relaxed evening “Meet & Greet” over finger food at the historic Locke Bar in Limerick City.

Wednesday morning (May 20) began with a strong focus on local ecosystem integration. DigiWind hosted an Inter-Regional Workshop and Panel Discussion featuring Irish Wind and Energy sector participants to ensure our educational programs directly align with current market demands.

Following a cultural walking tour of Limerick City starting at St. Mary’s Cathedral, partners settled into the formal General Assembly agenda at the Strand Hotel:

  • Project Management & Alignment (WP1): Project Coordinator Tuhfe Göçmen (DTU) opened the assembly with a status update, setting clear priorities for the coming months.

  • Curriculum Development (WP2): Nikolay Dimitrov (DTU) led discussions on the framework and current rollout of our specialized educational tracks.

  • Empowering Educators (WP5): Elena Stroo-Moredo (TUD) presented updates on the highly anticipated “Teach the Teacher” toolkit, a cornerstone initiative designed to upscale educators’ digital and pedagogical skills across partner institutions.

On Thursday (day 2), the assembly moved to the state-of-the-art TUS Coonagh Campus, focusing heavily on implementation, testing, and dissemination.

  • Work Package 4 presented by John Cosgrove & Gerard Cahill (TUS) – Implementation & Evaluation
  • Work Package 3 with Olimpo Anaya-Lara (NTNU) –  Specialised Course Modules
  • Virtual Campus Live Demo conducted by Darragh McShane (IMR) – Digital Platform Infrastructure
  • Work Package 6 presented by Andréia Santos (F6S) – Dissemination & Outreach

A major highlight of the day was a live demonstration of the DigiWind Virtual Campus. Partners experienced the progress of our interoperable virtual campus, which will host innovative modules in AI, High-Performance Computing (HPC), and cybersecurity for wind systems.

Tuhfe Göçmen (Project Coordinator) wrapped up the formal assembly by outlining upcoming milestones, establishing action items for the next quarters, and teasing locations for our future consortium meetings.

To cap off an incredible week, partners traveled to the coastal edge of County Clare on Friday for a site visit to the Moneypoint Power Station – traditionally Ireland’s largest electricity generation station, which is currently transforming into a major green energy hub.

A bug thank you to the entire team at the Technological University of the Shannon for their incredible hospitality and flawless event organization. The momentum generated in Limerick will propel DigiWind forward as we prepare to launch our next round of specialized educational courses and modules.
